Start your own MD Anderson Blood Drive for Cancer SURVIVORS!Great idea for employers or organization!
MD Anderson Cancer Center ranks #1 in cancer care in the nation. We are leaders in treatment, research and cancer prevention. Our cancer patients require comprehensive treatments which include regular blood and platelet transfusions. Our Leukemia and Lymphoma services use 80% of our hospital’s blood inventory. These patients are in constant need of something which can only be provided by an act of kindness and selflessness community volunteers. The act of donating blood is a truly life-saving activity.
Donating blood isn’t what most people think of on a daily basis, let alone during the holiday season. Donations are in need the entire year at MD Anderson and even more so during the holiday season and summer. Patients requiring surgery, chemotherapy, and those whose blood counts are too low – all require blood transfusions. We transfuse approximately 200 units of red blood cells and 600 units of platelets on daily basis. As new treatments are developed and new technologies are discovered the need for blood donations becomes greater. There is no substitute for human blood; we count of generous volunteer donors to help our patients with their fight.
We ask that you consider helping our cancer patients by donating blood this holiday season. Please visit http://www.mdandersonbloodbank.org to find a blood drive or donor center near you. All donations go to cancer patients at MD Anderson and are greatly appreciated. Blood donation is fast, pain-free, and safe. If you have any questions about requirements or eligibility please feel free to call 713-792-7777.
